Scope of This Privacy Policy
This policy applies to your use of the App. This policy does not apply to your use of unaffiliated sites to which our application only links. It covers only information collected in connection with the use of our application and not any other information collection or processing, including, without limitation, the information collection practices of any other web page to which our application links or the information that we or our affiliates collect offline or through websites, products, or services that do not display a direct link to this Privacy Policy.
Information We Collect
We collect information in the following ways: (a) information you voluntarily provide to us, for example when you register for an account, participate in the community, submit photos, or send us an email message; (b) information collected automatically through the App and through the third-party services described in this Privacy Policy, such as Device Identifiers, IP address, device and technical information (device model, operating system version, language, time zone, and app version), coarse (approximate) location derived from your IP address, in-app events and usage data, purchase and subscription events, and diagnostic and performance data; and (c) information we receive from third parties, such as attribution data received from advertising networks. We will use your information for, but not limited to, providing the Services, communicating with you in relation to services and/or products you have requested from us, analytics, measuring and improving our advertising and marketing, fraud prevention, and improving the App. We also may gather additional personal or non-personal information in the future.
Photos You Submit and How We May Use Them
When you use the plant identification feature in our App, the images you submit are stored on our servers, as well as on third-party servers used to facilitate plant recognition.
By submitting a photo through the App, you grant us a worldwide, perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free, sublicensable, and transferable license to store, use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, and display these images for the following purposes:
- Improving our Services: We may use submitted images to train, develop, and improve our machine learning and plant identification models, and to improve the accuracy and functionality of our plant identification system.
- In-app experience: We may showcase relevant images of plants to other users of the App, for example to users who identify the same plants.
- Marketing and promotion: We may use submitted images in our advertisements, on our website, on our social media channels, in the App Store and other app marketplaces, and in other marketing and promotional materials, in any media now known or later developed.
We take steps to ensure that no personally identifiable information is associated with these images when used for the purposes above. Please do not submit photos that contain people, faces, or other personal or sensitive content. If you would like a specific photo you submitted to be deleted, you may contact us at
support@growplant.io and we will make reasonable efforts to remove it from our systems, subject to technical limitations (for example, images already incorporated into trained models or published materials).
Sign Up, Sign In, and Community Features
For accessing the community, social feed, polls, and voting functionalities, users are required to sign up and sign in to the App. The sign-up process allows users to register using Google or Apple accounts. When you sign up using these services, we receive certain information such as your email address and profile name. The information received is used for account creation, authentication, ensuring a personalized experience within the App, and enabling your participation in the community.
When you participate in the community — for example by posting photos, comments, votes, or poll responses — the content you post, together with your profile name and profile picture, may be visible to other users of the App. Please be mindful of what you share publicly. We may moderate, remove, or restrict community content at our discretion.
Any payments that are processed through the App, including in-app purchases and subscriptions, are provided and managed by Apple’s App Store Payment Infrastructure. Therefore, we do not have access to your payment details (such as credit card numbers), and we cannot take responsibility for these transactions. The processing of in-app purchases is subject to Apple’s own privacy policy and terms of service. Information about your purchases and subscription status (such as products purchased, prices, subscription state, and renewal events) is processed by our service providers as described below.
In order to provide our services, we will request permission from your device to take pictures. We will also use an API for the plant identification from a company named Plant.id. When you take a picture with our App, this picture is then saved on our server and sent to the Plant.id servers, which send the response back to our server with all of the relevant information. Then we forward it to you. Some of the information that is being sent back by the API is being saved on our server.
The process of plant identification and the treatment of the pictures you take are subject to the privacy policy of Plant.id and its terms and conditions.
Our App provides an AI chat that uses OpenAI’s ChatGPT’s API. We also provide articles and daily tips written by ChatGPT. The interactions with the AI chat and the use of the articles and tips are subject to OpenAI’s privacy policy and its terms and conditions.
Analytics, Attribution, and Advertising Services
We use third-party services to understand how the App is used, to measure and improve the performance of our advertising campaigns, to manage purchases and subscriptions, and to monetize the App. These services may collect and process Device Identifiers, IP address, device and technical information, coarse location derived from IP address, in-app events, purchase and subscription events, advertising interaction data, and diagnostic and performance data. These services may also be integrated with one another and may exchange data with each other (for example, purchase and subscription data may be shared between RevenueCat and AppsFlyer) in order to provide combined analytics, attribution, and measurement capabilities. We may also use additional features and services offered by these providers in the future.
AppsFlyer
We use AppsFlyer, a mobile measurement and attribution platform, to measure and analyze the performance of our marketing and advertising campaigns, to attribute app installs and in-app events (including purchases) to advertising campaigns and channels, to measure advertising and ad monetization performance and revenue, to analyze user behavior and cohorts, and to detect and prevent fraud. AppsFlyer may collect and process Device Identifiers (such as the IDFA, where you have granted permission, and the IDFV), IP address and coarse location derived from it, device and technical information, in-app events, purchase and subscription events, advertising data, and diagnostic data. AppsFlyer may share certain data with our advertising partners and ad networks (such as Apple Search Ads, Google, and Meta) for the purposes of attributing installs and events to advertising campaigns, measuring campaign performance, and optimizing our advertising. The processing of data by AppsFlyer is subject to AppsFlyer’s Services Privacy Policy, available at
https://www.appsflyer.com/legal/services-privacy-policy/. You may opt out of AppsFlyer’s analytics and attribution processing by contacting us or AppsFlyer as described in that policy.
RevenueCat
We use RevenueCat to manage in-app purchases and subscriptions, to validate purchases, to manage your access to premium features, and to analyze purchase and subscription data (such as trials, conversions, renewals, cancellations, and revenue). RevenueCat may collect and process Device Identifiers, purchase and subscription information, and technical information about your device. RevenueCat may be integrated with our other service providers (including AppsFlyer and Firebase) and may share purchase and subscription events with them for analytics and advertising measurement purposes. The processing of data by RevenueCat is subject to RevenueCat’s privacy policy, available at
https://www.revenuecat.com/privacy/.
Firebase (Google)
We use Google Firebase services in our App, including Firebase Analytics (to understand user behavior, measure feature usage and engagement, and improve your experience) and Firebase Remote Config (to configure and customize the App remotely, including enabling, disabling, or adjusting features and running experiments). Firebase may collect data such as Device Identifiers, device type, operating system, IP address, and how you interact with our App. The processing of data by Firebase is subject to Google’s privacy policy, available at
https://policies.google.com/privacy, and information about Firebase’s data practices is available at
https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy.
Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics in our application to understand user behavior and improve your experience. Google Analytics collects data such as your device type, operating system, IP address, and how you interact with our App. This collected data helps us to understand trends and improve our App’s functionality. Google Analytics data is shared with Google, and Google’s use and sharing of this data is outlined in its own Privacy Policy.
Advertising and Ad Monetization
The App may display advertisements, and we advertise the App through third-party advertising networks. In connection with these activities, Device Identifiers and related data may be shared with advertising networks and our measurement providers in order to display ads, measure ad performance and ad revenue, and measure and optimize our own advertising campaigns.
Tracking and Your Choices (App Tracking Transparency)
On Apple devices, in accordance with Apple’s App Tracking Transparency framework, we will request your permission before accessing your device’s advertising identifier (IDFA) for tracking purposes — that is, linking data collected from our App with third-party data for targeted advertising or advertising measurement purposes. If you decline, the IDFA will not be used for these purposes; however, we may still perform privacy-preserving measurement (for example, using Apple’s SKAdNetwork / AdAttributionKit) and continue to collect the data described in this Privacy Policy for non-tracking purposes such as analytics, fraud prevention, and app functionality.
You can change your tracking preference at any time on your device under Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking. You may also limit ad personalization through your device settings.
How We Use Information
We use the information described in this Privacy Policy to: provide, operate, and maintain the Services; create and manage your account and enable community participation; process and manage purchases and subscriptions; identify plants and provide diagnoses, tips, and AI chat responses; understand and analyze how you use the App; measure, attribute, and optimize our advertising and marketing campaigns and ad monetization; train, develop, and improve our machine learning models and plant identification technology; promote and market the App, including through the use of submitted photos as described above; detect and prevent fraud and abuse; communicate with you; and comply with legal obligations. We do not share your information with any third parties except as described in this Privacy Policy. We do not sell your personal information in exchange for money.
How We Protect Your Information
We are committed to protecting the information we receive from you. We follow reasonable technical and management practices to help protect the confidentiality, security, and integrity of data transmitted to us and stored on our system. While no computer system is completely secure, while we strive to protect your contact information, to the extent permitted by law, we do not guarantee or warrant the security of any information you transmit to or from our websites and app, and you do so at your own risk.
Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights under applicable data protection laws, such as the right to access, correct, or delete personal information we hold about you, the right to object to or restrict certain processing, and the right to withdraw consent. To exercise these rights, or to request deletion of your account, community content, or submitted photos, please contact us at
support@growplant.io. We will respond to your request in accordance with applicable law.
Children’s Privacy
The App is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to delete such information.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may need to change the Privacy Policy from time to time, and we encourage you to review it at least once per month. If you continue to use the Services after changes have been introduced to the Privacy Policy, this will mean that you have accepted such changes to the Privacy Policy.
In some cases, we may notify you of changes to the Privacy Policy with a prominent notice on the Services (for example by way of a notification or pop-up), before the changes become effective and update the “last updated” at the top of this Privacy Policy.
Data Retention
We retain the information that we collect from you (including the photographs you provide for plant identification and the corresponding data received from the Plant.id API, account and community data, and analytics and attribution data) for as long as we believe is necessary to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected, to comply with applicable laws, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. Photographs licensed to us for model training and marketing purposes may be retained for as long as needed for those purposes. We take measures to delete your information or keep it in a form that does not permit identifying you when this information is no longer necessary for the purposes for which we process it, unless we are required by law to keep this information for a longer period. When determining the retention period, we take into account various criteria, such as the type of products and services requested by or provided to you, the nature and length of our relationship with you, the impact on the services we provide to you if we delete some information from or about you, and mandatory retention periods provided by law and the statute of limitations.
Third Party Links
Please note that the App may contain links to third-party websites, services, and advertisements that are not owned or controlled by us. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of those third-party websites, services, and advertisements, and you visit them at your own risk. This Privacy Policy does not apply to any third-party websites, services, or advertisements, even if they are accessible through our App. We recommend that you review the privacy policies of any third-party websites, services, or advertisements before providing them with any personal information.
